This small home got a much more spacious feeling, a living room with lots of light, and a new master bedroom with two built-in closets. All new doors are wide enough for a wheelchair, making it possible to age in place.

My parents emigrated from Norway and upon approaching retirement, my father decided to design and build a typical Scandinavian A-frame home overlooking the Puget Sound. Thirty five years later, I too am choosing to move to beautiful Vashon Island full time. My parent’s home however, needed to be modernized with a larger footprint for the kitchen and bathrooms. I was delighted to have Lidunn, a fellow Norwegian, recommended to me the necessary architectural changes and carefully maintain the integrity of my father’s original designs. She was a joy to work with! As an interior decorator, I had a vision of the improvements I wanted to see. Lidunn took my ideas and made them come alive. Remodeling always has its challenges, as one must work with and around an existing structure. Considerable time was spent going over my father’s somewhat sketchy old plans and visiting the home to study the actual house. Apparently my father took considerable creative license in the actual construction from his original plans! Lidunn’s painstakingly drawn architectural plans passed the King County Permitting procress with flying colors. We now have a lovely ‘new’ old Vashon home, with the charm of a traditional Scandinavian A-frame, but with a wonderfully spacious kitchen and bathroom and all new modern amenities.
